In recent times, the competition to be named the “world’s best airport” primarily involved Doha’s Hamad International and Singapore’s Changi Airport.
The latest shift in rankings has seen Doha overtake Singapore for the prestigious title in the 2024 Skytrax World Airport Awards, marking a significant change as Singapore has won this title twelve times before.
Asian airports showed robust performance, with Seoul Incheon securing the third spot and being recognized as the most family-friendly airport of 2024. Meanwhile, Tokyo’s Haneda and Narita Airports claimed the fourth and fifth places, respectively.
Hong Kong International Airport climbed remarkably by 22 places to rank 11th following a recovery from the pandemic and a surge in traveler numbers.
American airports continued to lag behind in the global rankings, with Seattle-Tacoma being the highest-ranked U.S. airport, falling six places to 24th.
European airports remained competitive, with Paris Charles de Gaulle, Munich, Zurich, and Istanbul all staying within the top ten rankings.
Other noteworthy changes include:
New York’s JFK Airport dropped five places to 93rd, while LaGuardia Airport ascended significantly from 57th to 33rd. Melbourne Airport held its position as the top Australian airport at 19th place. London Heathrow nudged up to 21st, and Gatwick climbed seven places to 48th. Japan’s Okinawa made an impressive leap from 199th to 91st.
Badr Al Meer, CEO of Qatar Airways Group, expressed pride in Hamad International Airport reaching its tenth year of operations and winning the title for the third time, as voted by travelers.
The Skytrax World Airport Awards bases its rankings on passenger satisfaction surveys.
