Vietnam’s Michelin Guide 2024 unveils 3 new one-star restaurants, a debut Green Star, and a doubled Bib Gourmand list.

At the 2024 MICHELIN Guide Ceremony hosted in Ho Chi Minh City’s InterContinental Saigon, Michelin proudly launched the MICHELIN Guide Vietnam 2024. This edition features the highly anticipated complete restaurant listings, including the prestigious Star ratings, MICHELIN Selected, and the well-loved Bib Gourmand.

The latest edition of the MICHELIN Guide features 164 restaurants, including 7 with one MICHELIN Star (including 2 new and 1 upgraded from MICHELIN Selected), 58 Bib Gourmand awards (28 newcomers and 1 transition from MICHELIN Selected), and 99 MICHELIN Selected restaurants (40 newly listed). This edition also highlights new additions from three cities: 10 from Hanoi, 26 from Ho Chi Minh City, and 36 from Da Nang.

Gwendal Poullennec, the International Director of the MICHELIN Guides, highlighted that Da Nang, newly included in Vietnam’s second MICHELIN Guide, offers a vibrant selection that showcases central Vietnamese cuisine. This region’s food scene reflects a rich blend of French, Chinese, and Southeast Asian culinary influences.

“In fact, Vietnam’s three cities — Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang — each have their own characteristics. The country’s culinary scene sees the vitality, passion, and creativity constantly surprising the market. Not to mention that renowned chefs are increasingly opening restaurants in Vietnam, coupled with a new generation of Vietnamese chefs emerging with a growing customer base. Therefore, Vietnam is indeed becoming a more interesting destination on the world’s food map, to attentively keep an eye on,” said Gwendal Poullennec.

Three establishments, including two newcomers and one promotion, have joined the prestigious ‘One MICHELIN Star’ category, raising the total to seven.

The two new entries earning one MICHELIN Star include: Akuna in Ho Chi Minh City, known for its inventive European cuisine infused with Vietnamese elements and an optional wine pairing; and La Maison 1888 in Da Nang, renowned for its exquisite 5- or 7-course menus that utilize premium ingredients from Vietnam, France, and Japan.

Elevated from the MICHELIN Selected list to achieve one MICHELIN Star status is The Royal Pavilion in Ho Chi Minh City. This restaurant is celebrated for its extensive à la carte and set menus that honor Cantonese culinary traditions, featuring a special dim sum menu exclusively available at lunch.

Nén Danang has distinguished itself as Vietnam’s first restaurant to be awarded the MICHELIN Green Star, an accolade recognizing establishments leading the way with sustainable practices and combining culinary brilliance with significant eco-friendly commitments.

The Bib Gourmand list has doubled from last year, now boasting 58 spots, with over half of the new entries based in Da Nang. Among the 29 newcomers, Da Nang contributed 16, including notable spots like Bé Ni 2, which serves rice dishes by day and seafood by night, and Mỳ Quảng Sứa Hồng Vân, celebrated for its mì quảng with vibrant orange-red shrimp broth.

The MICHELIN Selected list has welcomed 99 establishments this year, including 33 in Hanoi, 47 in Ho Chi Minh City, and 19 in Da Nang. These venues are recognized for their potential to ascend to either a MICHELIN Star or a Bib Gourmand status. New additions in Hanoi include Bánh Cuốn Bà Hoành, known for its exquisite bánh cuốn, and Hanoi Garden, which offers a blend of traditional and modern Vietnamese dishes. In Ho Chi Minh City, new listings such as Du Yên, specializing in vegetarian cuisine, Kobe Bistro with its French offerings, and Oryz, featuring East Asian dishes, have made the cut. Meanwhile, in Da Nang, newcomers like Mỳ Quảng Cô Sáu, Năm Đảnh, and Olivia’s Prime have earned their places for their distinctive culinary offerings.

Additionally, three special awards were announced:

  • The MICHELIN Guide Young Chef Award went to Chef Duy Nguyen of Little Bear in Ho Chi Minh City.
  • The MICHELIN Guide Sommelier Award was presented to Toan Nguyen of La Maison 1888 in Da Nang.
  • The MICHELIN Guide Service Award was awarded to Anh Nguyen from Si Dining in Da Nang, recognizing exceptional service.
