Travel between India and Thailand has seen a remarkable 50% increase, primarily driven by the newly extended visa waiver initiative.
The Thai authorities have prolonged the visa-free entry period for Indian travelers until November 11, 2024, extending well beyond the original deadline of May 10. This extension, along with a modest 5% increase in airfare, is fueling a significant uptick in reservations for trips to Thailand.
Significant growth in interest for trips to Thailand has been observed on digital booking platforms. ‘ixigo’, a leading travel aggregator, reported an impressive 90% rise in searches for Thailand in May 2024, compared to the same month last year. This boost is largely attributed to the extended visa waiver and the potential cost reductions it offers.
Additionally, travel agencies are noticing an uptick in spur-of-the-moment travel bookings, influenced by the visa waiver.
Popular destinations include Koh Samui, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, Koh Phangan, the Similan Islands, the historic cities of Ayutthaya and Sukhothai, Khao Lak, and Koh Lanta.
The advantage of visa-free travel is clear—it cuts out the lengthy visa application process, saving both time and money. MakeMyTrip, another major online travel agency, emphasized this significant advantage.
