The Taj Usha Kiran Palace in Gwalior, a historic residence once belonging to the Maratha rulers and built in 1880, recently revealed its spectacular renovation. This extensive overhaul highlights the palace’s commitment to preserving the opulent history and rich musical tradition of Gwalior while integrating modern luxuries, seamlessly merging historical charm with today’s comforts.

Kanika Hasrat, Area Director – Operations – MP, UP and Uttarakhand, IHCL said, “India’s rich cultural  and historical heritage is increasingly becoming a focal point for tourism. Constructed by HH Maharaja Jayaji Rao Scindia from the Maratha dynasty, the renowned Taj Usha Kiran Palace has been a silent spectator to generations of historical events, welcoming monarchs and notable figures from across the globe. Its 50 expansive rooms and suites, named after the morning’s first sunlight, offer a deep dive into a period of regal elegance and grandeur. Set within nine acres of lush, sunlit gardens, the accommodations are beautifully detailed with delicate filigree and jaali-style arches that enhance the flow of natural light. Visitors are transported back in time with features like a ceremonial horse-drawn carriage and the traditional Maratha tutari greeting upon arrival. The exquisite Navtaal swimming pool, creatively imagined as nine interconnected lakes with Venetian-style bridges, serves as a spectacular focal point in the palace gardens.

Ms. Tanika Taneja, General Manager, Taj Usha Kiran Palace, Gwalior said, “Taj Usha Kiran Palace’s  immersive new experiences celebrate Gwalior’s lineage of culture, craft and architecture. Bridging the  gap between history and contemporary luxury it offers a window into its glorious past with the  quintessential Taj hospitality.”

Honoring Gwalior’s rich culinary heritage, the Taj Usha Kiran Palace features the Silver Saloon, a multi-cuisine restaurant, and The Courts, a courtyard café that offers al fresco dining, alongside the historical Bada Bar, each designed to evoke a sense of the past. Additionally, the J Wellness Circle provides exclusive Indian spa treatments based on ancient techniques from the 14th century. The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) manages a portfolio of 12 properties across Madhya Pradesh under the Taj, SeleQtions, and Ginger brands, with four more currently in development.
