Lido House hotel in Newport beach going for an expansion – Travel And Tour World

The Lido House hotel in Newport Beach, a notable establishment since its opening in April 2018, is set for an expansion following approval from the Coastal Commission. This decision marks a significant milestone for the hotel, originally established on the grounds of the former Newport Beach City Hall. The expansion entails the hotel extending into the adjacent old firehouse property on 32nd Street, thereby adding approximately 15,000 square feet to its expanse.

Owner Bob Olson expressed his satisfaction with the Commission’s decision, highlighting the introduction of five new guest cottages at the rear of the property. These additions aim to enhance the guest experience by offering two-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bathroom cottages complete with full kitchens and rooftop barbecues, embodying the quintessential Newport Beach lifestyle. A unique aspect of this expansion is the involvement of five different local interior designers, each tasked with capturing the essence of Newport Beach in their design of the cottages, a practice that proved successful in the hotel’s initial phase.

To minimize disruption to guests, the construction will be executed in phases. Olson emphasized the hotel’s success and its positive reception from both the local and global community, viewing the expansion as a testament to the hotel’s commitment to enhancing its offerings and the overall guest experience.

The expansion project is not limited to the addition of guest cottages; it also includes plans for increased storage space, expanded breakout meeting rooms, a new greenhouse room with seating, the expansion of three existing hotel rooms, and an enclosed area with a rooftop terrace. This development was greenlit by the City Council in October 2022, underscoring the project’s anticipated contribution to the community and the hotel’s market presence.

A notable requirement from the Coastal Commission’s approval was the amendment of the city’s local coastal program to accommodate the expansion. This amendment increases the allowable development limit for the specified properties, ensuring compliance with local regulations and supporting the hotel’s growth ambitions.

Assistant City Manager Seimone Jurjis expressed the city’s support for the expansion, looking forward to the continued success of Lido House hotel in the competitive hotel market. This project not only represents a significant investment in the local hospitality industry but also reaffirms Newport Beach’s status as a premier coastal destination.
