The Ghana Tourism Authority has been reported to have initiated the preparations for the 2024 Kwahu Paragliding Festival at Kwawu Abene, located in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region. This initiative was marked by a launching ceremony, attended by key figures including the Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Operations at the Ghana Tourism Authority, Ekow Sampson, alongside traditional leaders from the Kwawu traditional council.
During an interaction with Adom News, Ekow Sampson disclosed that the paragliding festival is slated to occur from March 29 to April 1, 2024. He highlighted the distinctive appeal of the Kwawu paragliding site, pointing out that it’s one of the few sites in Africa offering such picturesque views for tourists and locals alike, thereby urging people to seize the opportunity to partake in the upcoming festival.
Isaac Agyapong, serving as the District Chief Executive for Kwawu East, addressed several challenges facing the festival, particularly emphasizing the steep accommodation costs during the Kwawu Easter festivities. He advocated for the Ghana Tourism Authority to negotiate with hotel proprietors to lower their rates, making the festival more accessible for a wider audience.
Furthermore, Agyapong brought to attention the incomplete road construction work on the route from Mpraeso to Abetifi, which is pivotal for the festival’s attendees. Despite the contractor’s departure from the project, he assured that measures would be taken to maintain the road’s usability for visitors coming to enjoy the Kwawu Easter celebrations.
The initiation of the Kwahu Paragliding Festival heralds the onset of an anticipated vibrant Easter celebration in the Eastern Region, expected to attract tourists and adventure enthusiasts from around the globe. This event not only promotes Ghana’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty but also significantly contributes to the global tourism industry by offering a unique adventure tourism experience. Through such festivals, Ghana positions itself as a leading destination for tourists seeking unique and exhilarating experiences, thereby fostering global tourism growth.
