DakshinaChitra Heritage Museum is excited to announce the hosting of ‘Utsavam’ on Sunday, March 10th, 2024, starting at 11 am. Now in its 9th iteration, ‘Utsavam’ has been a yearly highlight, curated and produced by Shreya Nagarajan Singh Arts Development Consultancy for the museum for the past seven years. This edition’s theme, “Artistic Allies – A Festival of Creative Partnerships,” celebrates the power of cooperation across various artistic disciplines including dance, theatre, storytelling, visual arts, and creative writing, highlighting the value of unity and partnership in the creative sector. Admission to the festival is included with the museum entrance fee at DakshinaChitra.

Dr. Deborah Thiagarajan, the museum’s founder and president, shares her enthusiasm for this year’s lineup, featuring a groundbreaking collaboration between renowned Yakshagana artist and musicians with celebrated Bharatanatyam dancer in a performance named Manoranga. Utsavam aims to push boundaries, fostering innovation and inquiry within the arts and women’s leadership roles.

Ms. Anitha Pottamkulam, Director – Culture at DakshinaChitra Heritage Museum, emphasizes the festival’s significance in cultural discourse, offering in-depth exploration of art forms through lectures, demonstrations, and performances, alongside fostering interdisciplinary dialogue among a diverse array of creative talents.

This year, Utsavam will unfold across various venues within DakshinaChitra Heritage Museum, each adorned with traditional South Indian architecture, providing an immersive backdrop for the festival’s collaborative performances. Highlights include a marquee performance by Bharatanatyam luminary Parshwanath Upadhye and Yakshagana maestro Keremane Shridhara Hegde.

Additionally, the festival will feature a market specifically spotlighting women-led businesses and entrepreneurs, alongside a pivotal panel discussion on the impactful roles of female leaders from prestigious cultural institutions in shaping Chennai’s arts and culture landscape.
