The Canadian Premier League (CPL) has officially confirmed the extension of its partnership with WestJet, solidifying the commitment of the Calgary-based airline as the Official Airline and Vacation Partner of the CPL and its member clubs for an additional four years.

Initiated in 2019, the collaboration between the CPL and WestJet was built on a shared dedication to engaging with local communities across Canada. The partnership aimed to connect these communities with the vibrant soccer scene both in Canada and globally. Over the initial four-year period, WestJet successfully fostered a strong connection with the growing community of passionate soccer enthusiasts in Canada through consumer contests. Additionally, the airline played a crucial role in facilitating essential travel for CPL clubs, players, and staff, enabling their participation in each season.

Glen Johnson, the Executive Vice President of the Canadian Premier League and Canadian Soccer Business, conveyed appreciation for WestJet’s dedication, declaring, “WestJet is a genuinely devoted partner that is dedicated to championing our goal of not only expanding the reach of soccer in Canada but also actively connecting with and empowering every community within our reach.”

As the hometown airline of Calgary, WestJet will maintain its role as the kit sponsor for Cavalry FC, the 2023 CPL regular season winner. The airline’s logo will continue to be prominently featured on the team’s jerseys for the sixth consecutive season in 2024. The exposure of these kits will be amplified internationally during Cavalry’s participation in the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup, starting in February 2024.

John Weatherill, the Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer of WestJet Group, conveyed his satisfaction in renewing the partnership. He emphasized the Canadian Premier League’s significant contribution to enhancing soccer enthusiasm in Canada at an international level. Weatherill affirmed, “Being the national carrier for Canada and facilitating connections between guests and their beloved destinations, we are excited to sustain our backing for the Canadian Premier League. It serves as a unifying force for Canadians and draws the attention of global citizens to our country.”

WestJet will continue its involvement as the presenting partner of the CPL schedule and will take on the title sponsorship of the CPL’s pre-season training camps. The release of the CPL’s 2024 regular season schedule, presented by WestJet, is scheduled for Tuesday, January 23. It will feature an exclusive offer for CPL fans to travel and support their club during away games. WestJet Reward Members will also enjoy new benefits, including exclusive ticket discounts, VIP experiences, and more, as part of the ongoing partnership.
