Chiva-Som Hua Hin marks International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem with its annual reforestation initiative, planting 500 new trees.
In honor of this year’s International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, Chiva-Som Hua Hin, a leader in transformative wellness, made notable strides in environmental sustainability. On July 26, 2024, Chiva-Som’s team, along with local youths, planted 500 mangrove trees at the Krailart Niwate Mangrove Project. This annual event underscores Chiva-Som’s dedication to sustainability and the crucial role mangroves play in safeguarding both local and global ecosystems.
For many years, Chiva-Som Hua Hin has marked the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem by planting mangrove trees at the Krailart Niwate Mangrove Ecosystem Preservation Project, the last urban mangrove forest in Hua Hin, located in Prachuap Khiri Khan province. This year, the effort was elevated by involving local youth. Twenty students from Wat Nong Kae Municipal School participated, planting 500 mangrove trees from 10 different species. This initiative aims to instill conservation awareness in the younger generation. Key participants included General Manager Vaipanya Kongkwangyuen, Operations Manager Win Rojanastien, Chiva-Som’s sustainability team, and members of Preserve Hua Hin.
The Krailart Niwate Mangrove Ecosystem Preservation Project is a collaboration between Chiva-Som, the Preserve Hua Hin Group led by Krip Rojanastien, Chairman of Chiva-Som International Health Resorts, under the royal patronage of HRH Princess Maha Sirindhorn, Hua Hin Municipality, and Silpakorn University. They have transformed a former wasteland into a thriving eco-sanctuary for both residents and visitors. Since 2007, over 12,000 mangrove trees have been planted in a 7-acre area, with a 1,000-meter elevated boardwalk for visitors to explore the reserve and enjoy its rejuvenating qualities.
Additionally, to celebrate this year’s International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, Chiva-Som organized a visit to Pran Buri Forest Park for 80 members of the 13th Junior Ambassadors of The Preserve Hua Hin Group. Activities focused on restoring and conserving natural resources, including mangrove and beach forest ecosystems, and included initiatives like beach reforestation and releasing blue crabs into the wild.
For nearly three decades, Chiva-Som has maintained the vision that ‘wellness must go hand in hand with sustainability.’ This vision permeates not only the guest experience at the resort but also its daily operations and outreach to local communities.
