Akasa Air, India’s rapidly growing airline, has confirmed an order for 150 fuel-efficient Boeing 737 MAX aircraft during the WINGS India 2024 event, the largest civil aviation gathering in Asia, taking place in Hyderabad this week.
This latest order, which includes 737 MAX 10 and 737 MAX 8-200 jets, ensures a consistent flow of aircraft deliveries for Akasa Air until 2032, solidifying the company’s expansion plans both domestically and internationally.
Marking a significant achievement, Akasa Air becomes the first Indian airline in civil aviation history to accumulate an order book exceeding 200 aircraft within just 17 months of commencing operations. This landmark order underscores the airline’s robust financial foundation and reflects Boeing’s confidence in Akasa Air’s future.
Vinay Dube, Founder and CEO of Akasa Air, stated at the WINGS 2024 airshow in Hyderabad, “This substantial and historic aircraft order positions Akasa on a trajectory to become one of the top 30 leading airlines globally by the end of this decade. Our remarkable growth underscores the immense potential of the Indian aviation market, and we are excited to be part of this journey.”
He further emphasized, “These new additions to our fleet will strengthen our operations as we expand our presence and venture into international skies in the near future. With each addition to our fleet, we move closer to our mission of connecting people, places, and cultures. As we enter the next phase of our growth, we are confident in our ability to serve millions of satisfied travelers worldwide.”
Dube concluded, “While celebrating our financial stability, growth potential, and market share, I am most proud of Akasa and its employees for achieving reliability and service excellence while maintaining the highest standards of safety in global aviation. This aligns with our growth philosophy of expanding in tandem with delivering industry-leading customer experiences.”
In 2021, Akasa Air initially ordered 72 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, followed by an additional order for 4 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft in June 2023. The latest deal in January 2024 brings the airline’s total order book to an impressive 226 aircraft. Akasa Air currently operates 22 aircraft and is set to receive 204 aircraft deliveries over the next eight years.
Demonstrating a commitment to sustainability and customer experience, the 737 MAX family offers increased range and fuel efficiency, resulting in a 20% reduction in fuel consumption and carbon emissions compared to its predecessors. Additionally, the aircraft is quieter, with a 50% lower noise footprint, and features enhanced passenger comfort, USB ports for device charging, and lower seat-mile costs for single-aisle airplanes.
Since its inception in August 2022, Akasa Air has received acclaim for its distinctive offerings, including Café Akasa inflight meals, the Pets on Akasa pet carriage policy, and a signature warm service both on the ground and in the air. The airline’s product quality, service excellence, punctuality, and operational efficiencies have consistently garnered positive customer feedback and high passenger load factors.
Akasa Air has established a robust presence connecting major metros with tier 2 and 3 cities across India. Serving over 6.3 million passengers since its launch, the airline connects with 18 cities, and bookings are available on its website, mobile apps, and through various travel agents and online travel agencies.
As Akasa Air plans to expand its operations in India, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, this recent aircraft order positions the airline to meet the growing demand for air travel in India, on its way to becoming the largest aviation market by 2047.
