This summer, travelers seeking a unique accommodation experience will have the opportunity to spend a night in the clock room of Paris’ esteemed Musée d’Orsay. Airbnb has recently launched a new ‘Icons’ category, which includes the Musée d’Orsay among its list of extraordinary destinations available for booking. This initiative allows holidaymakers to immeran authentic museum environment overnight.

However, securing a night in this iconic location comes with a specific condition. Airbnb has implemented a lottery system, and the room will be accessible for just one night—coinciding with the Opening Ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games on July 26. Prospective guests can start applying for this one-of-a-kind stay from May 21, 2024, through the Airbnb app, with the selected guests enjoying their stay free of charge.

The Musée d’Orsay, renowned globally not only as a former train station but also for its extensive collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masterpieces, is offering up its famous clock room for this special event. The room, known for its prominent clock face, has been reimagined into a stunning bedroom by designer Mathieu Lehanneur, who is also the creative mind behind the design of this year’s Olympic Torch for Paris 2024.

This occasion marks the first time the clock room will be used as a bedroom since the building’s construction between 1898 and 1900. The stay will include not only the unique experience of sleeping in a transformed historical space but also private access to the museum’s Impressionist collection and an exclusive tour of areas typically closed to the public. According to the Airbnb listing, the room features elegant wood paneling, a striking glass and steel clock that offers expansive views of Paris, and a floating bed, making it a true daydream setting.

This innovative offering is attracting significant attention, drawing comments from travelers who have expressed a preference for the Musée d’Orsay over other Parisian museums like the Louvre, citing less intimidating crowds and the impressive scale of artworks. This initiative by Airbnb not only highlights the global travel industry’s capacity for innovative tourist experiences but also showcases how iconic cultural institutions can engage with new audiences, thereby enhancing the attractiveness and competitiveness of destinations like Paris on the international stage.
