The 10th Annual Heritage Festival of East Lake Historical Society will be organized at Rock Springs Run State Reserve to overlap with the formal launch of the Historic Ethel Trail March 9th, 2024, i.e., Saturday.

The joint free event will have exhibitors with presentations from local crafters and organizations, children’s activities, historical memorabilia, along with food and music. The Historic Ethel Trail will be formally inaugurated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony which would be fully VIP-studded followed by guided walks along the 1.5-mile wheelchair-accessible circle and tram rides for the mobility impaired people.

The president of the East Lake Historical Society, Maureen Miller, said that they are happy to collaborate with the Wekiva Wilderness Trust in introducing this exhilarating historic trail as part of their 10th annual Heritage Festival. The Historic Ethel Trail breezes all through the heart of what was at one point of time was an expansive post-Civil War town at Rock Springs Run State Reserve with a store, station, cemetery, post office, and one-room school.

Twelve explanatory panels along the way define Ethel’s history and what life was earlier. Until two headstones were found by accident in a remote pasture, nothing was known about Ethel, said the President of the Wekiva Wilderness Trust, Philpott.
